The Benefits of E – LEARNING

The digital revolution has changed the learning process and how education is accessed, used and shared. This has many benefits for all of us.

The main benefit is that e-learning is available to everyone whenever they want it, including at weekends or in the evenings. And that’s not all! Unlike in the classroom, with e-learning, you can access the content as many times as you want. This is especially useful when you are preparing for an exam. In traditional learning, if you can’t attend a lesson, then you have to prepare on your own. Not to mention that traditional textbooks cannot be updated with new information, as fast as online information is.

What if you are a fast learner? Then, you can work at your own speed instead of following the speed of the whole group. Furthermore, you can choose which parts you want to study and you can skip certain areas you do not want to learn. In addition, e-learning saves you time as you do not need to travel to a school or college.

So, there you have it – e-learning has become popular and important all over the world because it helps students learn better. No one can deny that the future of learning is online!

1. You can access e-learning at any time. ________

2. E-learning is only for people preparing for exams. ________

Etalk is a company that makes learning software in England. Their Onebillion project has recently become popular, especially since their maths learning app was able to improve children's maths knowledge in Malawi in just eight weeks.

“Onebilion” gets its name from “the aim of  reaching one billion children”. This is almost the number of children who don't have the chance to go to school, according to the founder of Etalk. Primary education was not free in Malawi until 1994, and the sudden increase in student registration has put much pressure on the country's education system. There are many great benefits of educating children in developing countries. For example, women tend to have fewer and healthier kids, and have more chance to become part of the economy if they learn the basic skills right at primary level. In Malawi, a girl has more than 5 children on average, and it doesn't continue now.

In the Onebillion project, children are divided into groups of  25 or even 50. They are then taken to a special classroom called Oneclass where they spend half an hour every other day with the device. Each day ten or twelve children can use one tablet. An international volunteer controls the Oneclass and there is an online teacher who guides the children through the app. Participating in Oneclass, all children can learn at their own pace and make good progress in their study.

Modern Learning

Lucas Brown, Grade 10
I’m going to use e-learning apps and play learning games so I can get higher marks at school. Two of my weakest subjects are math and physics. I’m going to download an app called A + Learning that has a lot of courses for different subjects and levels. You can match videos and do exercises that are graded by AI. And you can play games! The best thing is you can chat with other students. I’m going to study at least three times a week to see if my grades improve.
My parents weren’t very happy with my history test result because mine was the lowest in the class. I’m going to sign up for an online history course. There are a few students from my school who have studied it already. It’s like a virtual classroom with a real teacher. We’ll do video calls and give presentations. I think it will be fun. I want to learn a language, so I’m going to install a computer game called Star City One. It’s a Spanish game, and all the voice actors use Spanish, and the instructions are written in Spanish. I think I will be able to learn very easily.

1 AI will only be useful to teachers.

AI  in the classroom

AI is entering every part of our lives little by little. There are a lot of bad things said about AI, but when people see how it can help them, they usually change their minds. The latest fans are schools that are starting to understand how it will change the lives of both teachers and students!

Helping the teacher

The modern teacher's life is full of paperwork. Homework to mark, tests to write and score, assessments to make for each student every term. AI can take on many of these tasks, allowing teachers space to be more creative in their teaching. AI also gives head teachers a hand with the management of the whole school, from organizing timetables to keeping track of student progress.

Helping the student

Normal schools are very good at helping 80% of students, but the top 10% are often bored and the bottom 10% are often confused. AI can spot this and provide extra work at the right level to keep these students interested. It can also bring boring subjects to life, for example by using augmented reality to let students see a 3D diagram of an Egyptian pyramid in history, or a human heart in biology.

In the future, AI will help students identify their strengths and weaknesses making personalized learning possible. It will also help students connect with different classrooms all over the world and help students communicate with other students wherever they are.
