A day in the life of my family

There are three of us at home: mum, my brother Huy and me, Mai. Huy is seventeen and he's keen on art. I'm fifteen and I love sports. We love our family and friends.

Our mum is a writer. She works at home. On a normal day, mum gets up first, takes the dog out and buys fresh rolls for breakfast. I get up second and make tea. After that, mum wakes my brother up. He gets out of bed and asks, 'Where's my purple shirt?". He finds his clothes (they can be anywhere), gets dressed and falls asleep again. When we go to school, mum stays at home and writes. Huy says she has an easy job: she just lies on the sofa and writes now and then.

After school, I go for a run in the park, but not on Tuesday and Thursday, when I have acrobatics. Huy cooks dinner for all of us. He's the best cook in the family. His food can be Vietnamese, Western or totally experimental. However, recently, he has art classes until 7.00 p.m., then we get pizza from a pizzeria. Nobody wants to wash the dishes. We all say 'Why always me?', but someone always does it in the end. We all look after our dog. When I go to bed, mum sits down and types on her laptop. At the weekends, I usually go to the gym, Huy goes to museums and mum visits her friends, but we also spend time together. We watch films and TV series.

My name is Thành. I live in a family of four people: my parents, my younger sister and I. Both my parents work from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., my sister and I spend most of our time at school. Because everyone is busy, we all join hands to do the housework. 

My dad is a software engineer. He gets up first and prepares breakfast for all of us. He doesn't wake mum up because she usually has to stay up late for her schoolwork. My mum is a university lecturer. She is always busy and has little time for herself, so my dad does lots of the housework to help my mum. 

After my mum gets up, she does the laundry and washes the dishes. My mum helps my little sister Phương to get dressed and prepare her school bag. We both go to an international school near our house by school bus, so our parents don't have to take us to school. 

My dad is a great cook. He is responsible for cooking, and my mum sets the table. I take out the rubbish, and my sister feeds the cat. We don't have to sweep or vacuum the floor because we have a cleaning robot to do it. So I just need to clean the house after it has finished vacuuming. 

My mum is very content that everyone in our family helps her with the chores. We do our share of housework willingly. We are all happy as everyone has some time to relax.

Today is our family cleaning day when all members do the housework together. We do it twice a month. It is so fun when everyone shares the chores. I think doing housework is a necessary part of our life because everybody is happy when their home is bright and clean. Do you think so?

 I'm responsible for tidying my room, watering the plants and cleaning the bathrooms. I quite enjoy the first two, but the last is dreadful. I have to clean the toilets, which I can't stand at all.
