The best time to exercise

We all know the importance of exercise as a healthy habit. But what’s the best time to exercise? Research has shown that morning, afternoon, or evening workouts have their own benefits. When you work out in the morning, you burn more fat. In fact, those who start their exercise routine on an empty stomach can burn about 20 per cent more body fat than those exercising later in the day. Morning exercise also helps many people sleep better at night.

Afternoon or evening workouts can also bring benefits. Remember that your temperature is the highest between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. This temperature helps increase your muscle strength and endurance. In the afternoon or evening, your reaction time is at its quickest, while your heart rate and blood pressure are the lowest. Exercising at this time decreases your chances of injury while improving your performance. So, depending on your schedule and preferences, you can choose the best time to work out.

MAKING THE ZZZS... COME EASY

You're sleeping deeply when, suddenly, the alarm goes off. No! You just need five more minutes... Does this sound familiar? Well, you're not alone. Teenagers everywhere complain for a lack of sleep, but why is this?

To start with, on average, teenagers need to sleep 8-10 hours, compared to adults' 7-9. They also usually feel sleepy later at night than adults, and take longer to wake up in the morning. That's the reason why they always want to sleep in!

But can this tiredness actually hurt you? Unfortunately, it can. If you don't get enough sleep, you find it harder to concentrate at school and you might do worse in your exams. You're also more likely to become ill or suffer from stress. A lack of sleep can affect everything.

Luckily, there's a simple solution. Get more sleep and sleep better with a good evening routine. Firstly, eat dinner early so you don't go to bed on a full stomach. Then, about an hour before you go to bed, start doing something quiet and relaxing like reading a book. Switch off your screens as the bright light from your smartphone or tablet can wake your body up. Finally, go to bed and get up at the same time every day. This helps your body find the right time for bedtime.

If you follow these tips to get more sleep, you will boost your performance at school while staying happy and healthy. Remember, there are no dreams without sleep. So, if you want to follow your dreams, make sure you catch up on those ZZZs!
