For example, crocodiles, known for their formidable presence, express maternal care that extends beyond mere instinct. Females carefully tend to their nests, adjusting temperature by adding or removing vegetation, and fiercely protecting their hatchlings, sometimes carrying them in their mouths to water for safety. Such behaviors indicate a form of maternal affection. Another case showing emotional complexity in reptiles can be found in red-footed turtles. These creatures show signs of distress when handled roughly or placed in unfamiliar environments. Even snakes, often considered solitary and indifferent, show strong emotional reactions. When showing aggression, they tend to hiss, coil and shake their tails. With a wealth of aforementioned evidence and extensive studies, scientists hope that reptiles can be protected from habitat loss in the coming years.
