What's special about ...?
Young people around the world tell us what's special about their countries.
#1 New Zealand
New Zealand is one of the most beautiful countries. It's a land of islands and mountains, lakes and rivers. The highest mountains are on the South Island. That's where they filmed Lord of the Rings. Aoraki/Mount Cook is 3,724 metres high! Most people live on the North Island, especially in Auckland, the biggest city. The longest river, the Waikato, is on the North Island too. It's 425 kilometres long.
What's special about New Zealand? Well, it's very far away from other countries. It's in the South Pacific Ocean, about 10,000 kilometres west of South America. And it's 1,500 kilometres east of Australia across the Tasman Sea. Another special thing is that there are only 4.6 million people but there are about 30 million sheep!

September 6th Dear Grandpa and Grandma, Stockholm is fantastic! Its weather is perfect, sunny! Our hotel is good. It has a swimming pool and a gym. It offers delicious breakfast. Yesterday Mum, Dad and I rented 3 bikes and cycled to the Old Town. My parents wore their helmets and I wore mine. We visited the Royal Palace first. What a beautiful place! Mum loved it. She said, “Swedish art is amazing.” After that, we had "fika", a café break, in a traditional café. Everything is so wonderful! Wish you were here! Love, Mai |

Hồ Chí Minh City is in the south of Việt Nam. It's got a population of about 9,000,000 in 2019. It's very modern and the people are really friendly. There are many good amusement parks, shopping malls and buildings here. Vũng Tàu, Phan Thiết and Đà Lạt are some quite nice places not far from Hồ Chí Minh City. I sometimes visit these cities for holidays, but Hồ Chí Minh City is more interesting.

Singapore or Kuala Lumpur? Which City Is Best for You?
Mary Clark, May 5
I recently traveled to two fantastic cities. Kuala Lumpur and Singapore have many differences but they are both great places to visit. So what do you do when you only have time to visit one? Here are some points to help you.
There is a lot to see and do in both cities. Kuala Lumpur is bigger and you might need to travel quite far to get to some attractions. Both have many shopping malls but Singapore has more amusement parks.
I think Singapore is more modern than Kuala Lumpur in some ways. The public transportation system is fast and comfortable. Malaysian buses and trains can be very crowded.
One of the best things about Asian countries is their food. Both cities have many tasty dishes, but in my opinion, food in Kuala Lumpur is cheaper. Now, you know the differences, which city is best for you?
1. Singapore is very different from Kuala Lumpur. => False
2. Kuala Lumpur has more shopping malls and amusement parks than Singapore.
3. Public transportation in Singapore is more modern.
4. Eating in Kuala Lumpur is cheaper.

Tom Blake, June 15
Hanoi is the capital city of Vietnam. Over eight million people live in Hanoi and it is the second most populated city in the country. The weather is not as hot as in the south and the coolest time of year is from September to November. This is one of the best times to visit. Hanoi is one of the oldest cities in Vietnam and has a long and interesting history. You can see many beautiful traditional Vietnamese and French buildings around the capital. Hanoi also has the most universities in Vietnam and you will find students from all around the country studying there. Although some restaurants are expensive in Hanoi, you can eat great food for a good price. You should definitely visit Hanoi when you come to Vietnam.

Then, we got out our torches and went on a guided tour of the dark museum. It was quite scary! After that, we made T-Rex T-shirts, and a scientist gave us an informative talk. At midnight, it was time to sleep, but that wasn't easy because we were so excited! It was an unforgettable experience!

Learning English in Sa Pa
Part 1
Chee*, a 28-year-old H'Mong woman in Sa Pa, set up a company called “Thank you, Sa Pa” to train poor children as tour guides. She hopes to free local girls from being illiterate home helpers. Traditionally, many H'Mong people believe that daughters should work, and going to school is only for the sons.
Part 2
At the age of 11, Chee often joined other children in a spot in front of a rock church, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Sa Pa. The tourists did not understand her so she decided to learn English.
The number of tourists in Sa Pa increased at the beginning of the 2000s. Many of them were willing to sit down and teach local children some basic English. Chee learned a lot from them and soon she could communicate in English.
