Located on an island on British Columbia's Central Coast in Canada, the Great Bear Rainforest is one of the largest rainforests in the world, so it is full of interesting plants, birds and animals, one of which is the spirit bear. It is thought that there are no more than 400 individuals of the species in the Great Bear Rainforest and they cannot be found anywhere else on Earth. With white or cream fur and from 1.3 to 1.9 meters in length, the spirit bear is considered an icon of the rainforest. Most of the bears can move very fast to catch salmon and climb trees to eat different kinds of fruits and insects. They eat a lot and sleep a lot too, especially when they hibernate. They sleep through winter. Even though they are fast and big, the bears don't seem dangerous to humans. It's suitable to go bare and whale watching on the island. Other activities like diving, snorkeling, and fishing are highly recommended. The local tourism has developed in the right way because it has helped make lots of money without damaging the local ecosystem. The best time to visit the island is from the middle of September to the beginning of October, when a great number of salmon come back to the rivers in the rainforest to lay eggs. It's also the time when the spirit bears show up at the streams to catch the fish. It rains almost every day, so tourists should bring raincoats and get ready to be amazed by the wildlife there.
